India imports 39,775 tn pulses via Chennai port Mar 4-12, says trade body

MUMBAI – India imported 39,775 tonnes of pulses through the Chennai port during Mar. 4-12, according to data released by the India Pulses and Grains Association. At 29,900 tonnes, shipment of pulses from Myanmar was the highest, making up around 75% of the total imports.

 

Urad imports were the highest among all pulses at 21,025 tonnes, making up nearly 53% of the total imports during the period. The country imported 17,125 tonnes from Myanmar and 3,900 tonnes of urad from Brazil, according to the data.

 

India imported 11,900 tonnes of tur, of which 10,500 tonnes were from Myanmar and 1,400 tonnes from Mozambique, the data showed.

 

Total masur imports were at 3,000 tonnes, according to the data. Of this, 1,850 tonnes were from the US, 1,125 tonnes from Canada, and 25 tonnes from Russia.

 

The country also imported 300 tonnes of chana from Myanmar through the Chennai port. Imports of other pulses included 775 tonnes of cow peas, with 525 tonnes from Myanmar and 250 tonnes from Brazil, the data showed. The country imported 800 tonnes of brown eye beans, with 550 tonnes from Brazil and 250 from Myanmar, and 675 tonnes of rajma, with 400 tonnes from Myanmar and 275 tonnes from Brazil.

 

Other imports included 325 tonnes of pea beans from Ethiopia, 250 tonnes of bocate beans and 550 tonnes of black eye beans from Myanmar, 125 tonnes of black beans from Brazil, and 50 tonnes of lima beans from Madagascar, according to the data.

 

During the period, 1,591 containers landed at the Chennai port, of which 1,196 were from Myanmar, the data showed.  End
