MUMBAI – Under the revival of sunflower cultivation project, the government will distribute 1.5 million kg of 10 varieties of hybrid sunflower seeds in the sunflower growing regions of the country, the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare said in a release Tuesday.

Similarly, to enhance the productivity and output of pigeon peas or tur, the government is promoting the use of short-duration, high-yielding hybrids and varieties, the release stated. These steps are being taken under the National Mission on Edible Oils-Oilseeds to increase the domestic production of oilseeds and achieve self-reliance in edible oils.

The mission has a provision of creating 600 value chain clusters across the country covering 1.0 million hectares annually. To address the issue of availability of quality seed to farmers, 34 oilseeds and 150 pulses seed hub centres have been established at Indian Council of Agricultural Research institutes and State Agricultural Universities, the release said.  End
