MUMBAI – Futures contracts of coriander and jeera on the National Comodity and Derivatives Exchange fell on Tuesday, while those of turmeric rose. Coriander prices fell due to muted domestic demand, while turmeric rose due to anticipation of a rise in domestic as well as export demand, according to analysts.
At 1358 IST, the most-active April contract of JEERA was down 1.2% at INR 20,965 per 100 kg. However, a weak production outlook because of above-normal temperatures in major producing states amid robust exports could support prices, Amit Gupta, an analyst at Kedia Advisory, said. Higher domestic demand with the start of Ramadan and the wedding season is also likely to support prices, he said. In the near term, jeera futures are likely to trade in the range of INR 20,500-INR 21,800 per 100 kg.
At 1400 IST, the most-active April contract of TURMERIC was up 0.8% at INR 12,500 per 100 kg due to anticipation of a rise in domestic as well as export demand, according to analysts at SMC Global Securities. However, a surge in arrivals due to an early harvest in Telangana could weigh on prices, the brokerage firm said.
At 1404 IST, the most-active April contract of CORIANDER was down 0.5% at INR 7,880 per 100 kg due to muted domestic demand, according to SMC Global Securities. On the other hand, a weak production outlook could support prices, the brokerage firm said. Total production of coriander is projected to decline 11% to 630,000 tonnes in 2025-26 (Apr-Mar). However, sluggish export enquiries and heavy carryover stocks could cap the gains, the brokerage said. In the near term, coriander futures are likely to trade between INR 7,700 and INR 8,100 per 100 kg.
