MUMBAI – Urad prices are likely to remain range-bound in the near term, the India Pulses and Grains Association said in a weekly market update. Minor fluctuations of INR 100-200 per 100 kg, if any, are possible in the coming days, the association said.

Imports of urad are likely to continue as the government extended duty-free imports of the commodity for another year until Mar. 31, 2026. Ongoing arrivals of the rabi crop in southern markets and progress in sowing will limit any price increase, the pulses body said. Future price movements will depend on import supplies, it said.

Urad prices dropped in the week ended Saturday due to slow buying from millers after the government extended duty-free imports. Regular imports from Myanmar, weak cost and freight quotes, rabi crop arrivals, and low sales of processed urad also affected market sentiment, the association said.

In addition, trade volumes were low due to Holi and the financial year-end, it said. Prices of the commodity in the key market of Guntur in Andhra Pradesh fell by INR 75 from the previous week to INR 7,825 per 100 kg on Saturday. On a yearly basis, urad prices fell to INR 1,675 per 100 kg from INR 9,500 per 100 kg, according to data from the association.  End
