MUMBAI - Prices of all pulses remained unchanged on Thursday as some markets saw subdued trading while others remained shut on account of 'Holika Dhahan', traders said. Most major markets will also be closed on Friday for Holi, they said.

CHANA prices in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, were steady at INR 5,700-INR 5,750 per 100 kg, Kailash Kakani, a local trader said. Though the market was open, trading activity was low as many participants stayed away due to festivities, he said.

Chana prices are likely to fall under the growing pressure of rabi arrivals, traders said. According to the agriculture ministry's second advance estimates released Monday, chana output in 2024-25 is pegged at 11.5 million tonnes, down from 12.3 million tonnes calculated in the second estimate a year ago, but up from 11 million tonnes shown in the final estimate last year.

Market participants are divided on the government's likely decision on duty-free imports of chana after Mar. 31. Some believe the government will extend the duty-free imports, while others are not quite sure.

TUR prices in Akola, Maharashtra, were steady at INR 7,400-INR 7,425 per 100 kg, said Aniket Kedia, a local trader. There were no arrivals on Thursday as most of the markets remained shut, he said.

Prices of tur are expected to fall because there is no demand for the legume as mills have already stocked up for their processing needs, traders said. Prices could also be weighed by steady arrivals of the kharif crop, they said. The agriculture ministry's second advance estimate has pegged the country's tur production in 2024-25 at 3.5 million tonnes, unchanged from the first estimate.

Prices of MOONG in Lalitpur, Uttar Pradesh, were steady at INR 6,500-INR 7,200 per 100 kg, according to the India Pulses and Grains Association. Prices of moong are likely to remain steady in the short tern, traders said. While arrivals are low, so is the demand for moong, keeping prices steady, they said. Despite muted market activity, prices of moong are likely to remain steady in the short term.  End
