MUMBAI - Prices of mustard seed and groundnut were steady in Jaipur in Rajasthan, and Gondal in Gujarat, respectively, on Thursday, traders said. However, prices of soybean were up in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, they said.
MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur were steady at INR 6,100-INR 6,125 per 100 kilograms, a trader from the Marudhar Trading Agency said. All-India mustard arrivals were drastically down at 400,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), according to the agency. Mustard arrivals were around 1.2 million bags on Wednesday. "Most of the farmers did not bring their produce to markets on Thursday as they are preparing for festival (Holi) celebration on Friday," he said. There will be normal arrivals from Monday again, he added.
SOYBEAN prices in Indore in Madhya Pradesh rose by INR 320 to INR 3,800-INR 4,100 per 100 kg, with arrivals falling by 1,500 bags to 3,000 bags (1 bag = 90 kg), Narendra Porwal, a local trader, said. "Soybean prices rose in domestic markets on Thursday tracking prices on Chicago Board of Trade," he added. However, the increasing usage of distillers dried grains with solubles or DDGS for poultry feed is likely to weigh on soybean prices in the long term, he said.
GROUNDNUT prices in Gondal in Gujarat were steady at INR 4,600-INR 6,100 per 100 kg, said Ashok Virvani, a local trader. "Currently, there are poor quality arrivals in various spot markets of Gujarat as most of the best varieties are procured by the government," he said. In the long term, groundnut prices are expected to fall due to projection of bumper crop, he added. The production of kharif groundnut is estimated at 10.4 million tonnes compared to 8.7 million tonnes a year ago, according to the second advance estimate for 2024-25 (Jul-Jun) released by the government on Monday.
