MUMBAI – Prices of all oilseeds including the three major ones--mustard seed, groundnut, and soybean--fell in Jaipur, Gondal, and Indore, respectively, traders said. Given the sluggish demand for Indian soymeal in global markets, soybean prices are expected to fall further, they added.
MUSTARD seed prices were down by INR 50 at INR 6,100-INR 6,125 per 100 kg in Jaipur, Rajasthan, a trader from the Marudhar Trading Agency said. Mustard arrivals all over India increased by 250,000 bags from Friday to 1.1 million bags (1 bag = 50 kg), according to data from the agency. "The ongoing arrivals of the new mustard crop in various mandis across the country is putting pressure on prices," he said. However, temporary improvement is possible this week due to the Holi festival, he added.
SOYBEAN prices in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, fell by INR 100 to INR 3,500-INR 4,100 per 100 kg, with arrivals increasing by 100 bags to 4,400 bags (1 bag = 90 kg), Narendra Porwal, a local trader, said. "Poor demand for Indian soymeal both globally and domestically is affecting prices of soybean," Porwal said.
Distillers' dried grains with solubles, widely known as DDGS, is increasingly being preferred as poultry feed as it is cheaper than soymeal, said Indrajit Paul, head of Agrocorp International. Hence, the feed industry is gradually replacing soymeal with distillers' dried grains with solubles, he added.
GROUNDNUT prices in Gondal, Gujarat, were down by INR 50 and were in the range of INR 4,650-INR 6,100 per 100 kg, said Ashok Virvani, a local trader. "Poor demand for groundnut and groundnut oil internationally and domestically is affecting the oilseed prices," he said. Millers are being cautious while buying, he added.
