MUMBAI – Tur prices are expected to remain range-bound in the short term, the India Pulses and Grains Association said in its weekly report on Monday. Prices could be supported at lower rates by a fall in arrivals as farmers are not willing to sell their produce at lower prices.
On the other hand, demand for tur is likely to remain low as mills reduce purchases amid lower processing margins, the association said. Spot markets are also likely to see lower trading activity as mills reduce buying ahead of Holi holidays and the end of the financial year, the association said. Holika Dahan will take place on Thursday while Holi will be celebrated on Friday.
In the week ended Saturday, prices of tur fell due to weak demand from mills, the association said. Mills bought less tur due to a drop in sales of tur dal, or processed tur, according to the association.
Prices were also weighed down by a fall in demand from stockist and slow procurement by the government, which dampened market sentiment. The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India has procured nearly 35,688 tonnes of tur under the price support scheme as of Sunday, according to data provided by the federation.
In the week ended Saturday, prices of tur in Akola, Maharashtra, fell by INR 200 per 100 kg from INR 7,500-INR 7,525 per 100 kg the previous week, according to the association. Prices of tur in Kalaburagi, Karnataka, fell by INR 306 per 100 kg to INR 6,100-INR 7,806 per 100 kg. End
