NEW DELHI – Rice exports to some Europe Union countries need not have the certificate of inspection for six months till Sept. 9, the commerce ministry said in a notification on Monday. However, exports of non-basmati and basmati rice to the UK, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland need certification from concerned authorities, it added.
A certificate of inspection for rice is a trade document that verifies that the rice meets quality and safety. It is issued by the Export Inspection Council or the Export Inspection Agency.
On Mar. 7, India allowed export of non-basmati broken rice amid a pile-up of stocks in the country. The government had banned rice exports in September 2022 to ensure availability in the domestic market and check rising prices. End
