Tea Board says India's Jan tea output down 2.1% on year at 17.03 mln kg

MUMBAI – India's tea production in January fell 2.1% on year to 17.03 million kg, according to provisional data released by the Tea Board India. In January 2024 the country had produced 17.40 million kg of tea.
Tea production of north Indian states fell 89% from last year to only 40,000 kg, of which, Assam accounted for 50% and West Bengal the rest, the data showed. West Bengal's production fell 90.5% on year.
Tea production of south Indian states fell 0.2% on year to 16.99 million kg and accounted for nearly 100% the country's total production in January. Karnataka produced 370,000 kg of tea in January. Kerala produced 4.87 million kg, down nearly 8% on year, the data showed. Only Tamil Nadu's tea production rose 3.3% to 11.75 million kg.
