India imports 30,025 tn pulses via Chennai port Feb 15-24, says trade body

MUMBAI – India imported 30,025 tonnes of pulses through the Chennai port from Feb. 15-24, according to data released by the India Pulses and Grains Association. At 18,300 tonnes, shipment of pulses from Myanmar was the highest, making up nearly 61% of the total imports.
The country imported 13,200 tonnes of urad, making up nearly 44% of the total imports during this period. The country imported a whopping 12,900 tonnes of urad from Myanmar, and 300 tonnes from Brazil, according to the data.
Total masur imports were 9,850 tonnes, according to the data. Of the total imports, 5,125 tonnes came from Canada, 4,575 tonnes were from the US, and 150 tonnes from Australia.
India imported 5,450 tonnes of tur, of which 5,175 tonnes were from Myanmar, 150 tonnes from Tanzania, and 125 tonnes from Uganda, the data showed.
The country also imported 1,225 tonnes of chana from Australia via the Chennai port. Imports of other pulses included 200 tonnes of cow peas from Myanmar, 75 tonnes of lima beans from Madagascar, and 25 tonnes of rajma from Myanmar, the data showed.
During the period, 1,201 containers landed at the Chennai port, of which 732 were from Myanmar, the data showed. End
