MUMBAI – Prices of all oilseeds fell in most of the domestic markets across the country on Tuesday, traders said. Although farmers' resentment has led to higher procurement by government agencies, prices of most of the oilseeds are below the minimum support prices, they added.

MUSTARD seed prices were down INR 25 from Monday and were in the range of INR 6,100-INR 6,125 per 100 kg in Jaipur, a trader from Marudhar Trading Agency said. Spot markets in Rajasthan reopened on Monday following protests by traders and market participants against the Krishi Kalyan Cess since Feb. 23, the trader said.

"Increasing arrivals after protests is affecting prices in negative way," Mahesh Sameriya, a trader from the state said. Prices may improve in mid-March when the government agencies will start procuring the new crop, he added.

SOYBEAN prices fell INR 50 to INR 3,650-INR 4,100 per 100 kg in Indore, Mahya Pradesh, even though the arrivals were down by 200 bags at 4,000 bags (1 bag = 90 kg), Shailendra Soni, a local trader, said. Some varieties with less moisture content were priced at INR 3,800 per 100 kg, INR 3,966 per 100 kg, and INR 4,000-INR 4,100 per 100 kg, he added.

"Farmers are not happy with current mandi prices and due to their resentment, the government procured a large amount of soybean. After that also, prices are below the minimum support price of INR 4,892 per 100 kg for the marketing season 2024-25 (Oct-Sept)," said Narendra Porwal, another trader from the state. The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India has procured 1.47 million tonnes of soybean, which is 43.6% of the sanctioned quantity of 3.38 million tonnes, as per data from the federation.

GROUNDNUT prices in Gondal, Gujarat, were down INR 100 at INR 4,850-INR 6,250 per 100 kg, said Ashok Virvani, a local trader. Minimum support price for groundnut is INR 6,783 per 100 kg for the marketing season 2024-25. "Poor quality arrivals are there in most of the mandis of Gujarat as government has procured best quality groundnuts," Virvani said. Now, millers are buying cautiously, he said. Moreover, weak export demand for groundnut and groundnut oil is leading to a fall in domestic prices of groundnuts, he added.
