Pulses body says imports via Chennai port at 26,275 tn during Feb 7-14

MUMBAI – India imported 26,275 tonnes of pulses through the Chennai port Feb. 7-14, according to data released by the India Pulses and Grains Association on Monday. At 11,775 tonnes, shipments of urad, tur, and other pulse varieties from Myanmar made up around 45% of the total imports.
Urad imports were the highest among all pulses at 17,250 tonnes, making up nearly 66% of the total imports during the given period. The country imported 8,500 tonnes of urad from Brazil, 7,875 tonnes from Myanmar, and 875 tonnes from Thailand, according to the data.
India imported 5,150 tonnes of tur, of which 3,275 tonnes were from Myanmar, 1,625 tonnes from Mozambique, and 250 tonnes from Tanzania, the data showed.
Total masur imports were 3,000 tonnes, according to the data. Of the total imports, 1,575 tonnes were from the US, 725 tonnes from Canada, and 700 tonnes from Russia.
Imports of other pulses included 200 tonnes of brown eye beans, with 125 tonnes from Brazil and 75 tonnes from Myanmar, the data showed. The country imported 150 tonnes of rajma from Myanmar, 75 tonnes of lima beans from Madagascar, 225 tonnes of black eye beans from Myanmar, 50 tonnes of cow peas from Madagascar, and 175 tonnes of bocate beans from Myanmar, the data showed.
During the period, 1,051 containers landed at the Chennai port, of which 471 were from Myanmar, the data showed. End
