NAFED's oilseed procurement at 51% of approved quantity as of Monday

MUMBAI – The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India has procured 2.78 million tonnes of oilseeds as of Monday, nearly 51% of the total 5.48 million tonnes approved by the government under the price support scheme, according to data by the central procurement agency.
Of the total quantity sanctioned for oilseed procurement, soybean has the largest share at 3.38 million tonnes. The government procured 1.47 million tonnes of soybean, which is 43.6% of the sanctioned quantity. The Centre has allowed six states--Karnataka, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Gujarat--to procure soybean from farmers at a minimum support price of INR 4,892 per 100 kg for 2024-25.
In Maharashtra, 836,741.29 tonnes of soybean were procured, which was 59.3% of the sanctioned quantity of 1.41 million tonnes. In Madhya Pradesh, NAFED procured 388,900.17 tonnes, which is nearly 28% of the sanctioned quantity of 1.4 million tonnes. Soybean procurement in Gujarat was 48,054.81 tonnes, 42.2% of the sanctioned quantity of 114,015 tonnes, the data showed.
NAFED has procured only 18,282.05 tonnes of soybean in Karnataka, which is just 16% of the sanctioned quantity of 111,470 tonnes. The federation has also purchased 98,866.54 tonnes of soybean in Rajasthan, and 83,075.55 tonnes in Telanaga, the data showed. Procurement is yet to begin in Chhattisgarh.
NAFED procured 1.28 million tonnes of groundnut, which is nearly 62.2% of the total sanctioned quantity of 2.05 million tonnes. The Centre has allowed Gujarat, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh to procure groundnuts at a minimum support price of INR 6,783 per 100 kg.
In Gujarat, 907,326.91 tonnes of groundnut was procured, which is nearly 69.3% of the sanctioned quantity of 1.31 million tonnes. Procurement in Gujarat will most probably end by Feb. 15, a local trader said.
In Rajasthan, 295,636.09 tonnes of the sanctioned quantity of 531,828 tonnes was purchased, according to the data. The federation has purchased 71,449.63 tonnes of groundnut in Uttar Pradesh, while 1,007.55 tonnes were procured in Karnataka. NAFED has not started purchases in Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh so far.
Meanwhile, procurement of sesamum is yet to begin in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. The Centre has sanctioned procurement of 123 tonnes and 31,473 tonnes in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, respectively. The minimum support price for sesamum for 2024-25 (Oct-Sept) is INR 9,267 per 100 kg.
In the case of sunflower seeds, the Centre has allowed procurement only in Karnataka, with a sanctioned quantity of 13,210 tonnes at a minimum support price of INR 7,280 per 100 kg. So far, 3,278.25 tonnes, or nearly 25% of the sanctioned quantity, has been procured, as per the data. End
