Govt extends soybean, groundnut procurement period in 4 states

NEW DELHI – The government Monday extended the procurement period for soybean in Maharashtra by 24 days and in Telangana by 15 days. Procurement of groundnut has been extended in Gujarat by six days and in Karnataka by 25 days. The extension is beyond the normal procurement period of 90 days. This decision is aimed at enabling farmers to sell their produce at remunerative prices, a statement by the ministry of agriculture said.
The extension of the procurement period is part of the price support scheme under the integrated Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan Scheme, which was also extended for another year till March 2026.
The government had approved the procurement of soybean under the price support scheme in the states of Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Telangana for kharif year 2024-25 (Jul-Oct). A quantity of almost 2 million tonnes of soybean has been procured till Sunday, benefitting 846,251 farmers, the statement read. Furthermore, 1.6 million tonnes of groundnut has also been procured till Sunday, which has benefitted 475,183 farmers, it added.
To incentivise farmers and reduce dependence on imports, the government has also allowed the procurement of tur, urad, and masur under the price support scheme, equivalent to 100% of the state's production. This initiative will continue for another four years to achieve self-sufficiency in pulses, as announced in the Budget 2025-26 (Apr-Mar). End
