Tea Board says India's Dec tea output down 65% on year at 29.39 mln kg

MUMBAI – India's tea production for December fell over 65% on year to 29.39 million kg, according to provisional data released by the Tea Board India. The country had produced 84.39 million kg of tea in December 2023.
North Indian states produced nearly 38%, or 11.09 million kg, of tea in December, the data showed. Assam accounted for nearly 22% of the total tea produced in the country at 6.33 million kg. West Bengal contributed 15%, or 4.41 million kg, to the total output for December, the data showed.
While tea production in north India decreased by 83% on year during December, West Bengal's production fell 89% on year. However, tea production in south India increased nearly 1% on year as all major producers registered a year-on-year rise. Tea production in Karnataka and Kerala rose by 5.3% and 3% on year, respectively.
The southern states' share was nearly 62% at 18.30 million kg of tea in December. Karnataka produced 400,000 kg, accounting for 1.4% of the country's total production, and Kerala produced 17.4% at 5.11 million kg in December, the data showed. End
