MUMBAI – Prices of wheat, maize, and rice were steady in key spot markets across the country, traders said. Prices of wheat and maize are likely to remain range-bound till the new rabi crop starts arriving in the markets in mid-February and the first week of March, respectively, they said.

Prices of mill-quality WHEAT in Kota in Rajasthan were steady at INR 3,050 per 100 kg, a local trader said. Arrivals halved from Monday to 2,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), he said. Most major commodity spot markets were closed Tuesday for Makar Sankranti. While arrivals have fallen, demand for wheat is also sluggish, keeping prices steady, he said.

Prices of mill-quality wheat were steady at INR 3,450 per 100 kg in the Navi Mumbai market, wholesale dealer Devendra Vora said. The market in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, started receiving small amounts of the new rabi crop, with arrivals of 5 bags (1 bag = 100 kg) on Wednesday, he said. However, prices are seen to be steady until the arrivals of wheat begin in full swing after mid-February, he said.

Prices of mill-quality wheat in Delhi were also steady at INR 3,300 per 100 kg, traders said. Prices have been steady at an all-time high since Monday. Prices had previously reached the peak on Jan. 7, traders said. Prior to that, the all-time high wheat price was INR 3,250 per 100 kg in January 2023.

MAIZE prices at Davanagere in Karnataka were steady at INR 2,000-INR 2,380 per 100 kg. Arrivals were also steady at 2,000 bags (1 bag = 60 kg), local trader Shiva Kumar said. Prices of maize are likely to be range-bound till the new rabi crop starts arriving in the first week of March, traders said.

Prices of sona masoori RICE were unavailable as markets in Bhavanipuram in Andhra Pradesh were shut for Pongal. Prices of new basmati rice were steady in the Vashi market at INR 6,000-INR 6,400 per 100 kg, Vora said. Prices of sonam rice from Gujarat were also steady at INR 5,600-INR 5,700 per 100 kg, he said.  End
