NAFED procures 47.4% of approved quantity of moong; tur buying yet to start

MUMBAI – The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India procured 158,451.44 tonnes of moong as of Tuesday, which is 47.4% of the Centre-approved quantity of 334,416 tonnes under the price support scheme, according to data released by the federation. Urad procurement has begun in only one out of nine states, while tur procurement is yet to begin, the data showed.

 

Moong will be procured from all the states at the minimum support price of INR 8,682 per 100 kg, according to the federation. In Rajasthan, NAFED has bought 130,577.856 tonnes of moong, which is 54.6% of the sanctioned quantity of 238,988 tonnes to be procured between Oct. 18 and Jan. 15, the data showed. In Karnataka, moong procurement was 26,752.65 tonnes out of the total 38,320 tonnes approved by the government to be procured from Aug. 24 to Dec. 18.

 

Moong procurement in Telangana as of Tuesday stood at 990.44 tonnes against 4,715 tonnes allowed for procurement from Aug. 30 to Nov. 27. In Maharashtra, the federation's purchases stood at 63.25 tonnes, out of the 29,108 tonnes approved by the government. The procurement period in Maharashtra is from Oct. 10 to Jan. 7. Out of the sanctioned quantity of 8,000 tonnes in Tamil Nadu, the federation has procured 67.25 tonnes, according to the data.

 

The federation has not yet begun procuring moong in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Haryana, the data showed.

 

NAFED has started urad purchases only in Rajasthan. As of Tuesday, it had procured only 31.25 tonnes against the approved quantity of 149,240 tonnes in the state, where the procurement period is from Oct. 18 to Jan. 15, the data showed.

 

Urad will be procured at the minimum support price of INR 7,400 per 100 kg from all the states. The federation has to procure 430,000 tonnes of urad in Uttar Pradesh, 199,210 tonnes in Maharashtra, 52,750 tonnes in Gujarat, 29,540 tonnes in Andhra Pradesh, 29,370 tonnes in Tamil Nadu, 42,590 tonnes in Karnataka, 6,960 tonnes in Telangana, and 60 tonnes in Haryana.

 

Tur procurement has not yet begun, the data showed. The government has sanctioned the procurement of an additional 475,290 tonnes of tur, of which 169,140 tonnes will be from Telangana and 306,150 tonnes from Karnataka, according to a release by the federation on Dec. 16. NAFED will now buy a total 966,575 tonnes of tur.

 

Earlier, the Centre had approved the purchase of 491,285 tonnes tur, with 395,170 tonnes from Uttar Pradesh, 95,620 tonnes from Andhra Pradesh, and 495 tonnes from Haryana. NAFED will purchase tur at the minimum support price of INR 7,550 per 100 kg from all states.  End
