Pulses body says imports through Chennai port at 26,500 tn during Dec 21-29

MUMBAI – India imported 26,500 tonnes of pulses through the Chennai port between Dec. 21 and Dec. 29, according to data released by the India Pulses and Grains Association late on Wednesday. At 21,000 tonnes, over 80% of the imports were from Myanmar and comprised urad, tur, and rajma, the data showed.

 

Tur imports were at 7,700 tonnes, making up 29.1% of the total imports during the period. The country imported 5,750 tonnes of tur from Myanmar, 1,875 tonnes from Tanzania, and 75 tonnes from Kenya, according to the data.

 

India imported 15,900 tonnes of urad, accounting for 60% of the total imports during the period. Of the total urad imports, 15,150 tonnes were from Myanmar, 500 tonnes from Thailand, and 250 tonnes from Brazil.

 

Total masur imports were at 2,525 tonnes, with Canada accounting for 1,825 tonnes and the US for 700 tonnes, the report showed. 

 

India also imported 100 tonnes of rajma from Myanmar, which included 25 tonnes of red rajma. The country imported 275 tonnes of chickpeas from Tanzania, the data showed.

 

During the period, 1,060 containers landed at the Chennai port, of which 840 were from Myanmar, the data showed.  End
