Pulses body says imports via Chennai port from Dec 14-20 at 27,225 tn

MUMBAI – India imported 27,225 tonnes of pulses via the Chennai port between Dec. 14 and Dec. 20, according to data released by the India Pulses and Grains Association on Tuesday. Nearly 51% of the imports, at 13,750 tonnes, were from Myanmar and consisted of urad, tur, rajma and chickpeas, the data showed.
Tur imports were at 12,000 tonnes, making up 44.1% of the total imports during the given period. The country imported 3,800 tonnes of tur from Myanmar, 3,325 tonnes from Tanzania, 4,575 tonnes from Mozambique, and 300 tonnes from Malawi, according to the data.
India imported 11,200 tonnes of urad, accounting for 41.1% of the total imports during the period. Of the total urad imports, 9,700 tonnes were from Myanmar and 1,500 tonnes from Brazil.
Total masur imports were at 3,175 tonnes, with Canada accounting for 1,950 tonnes and the US for 1,225 tonnes, the report showed.
India also imported 25 tonnes of chickpeas from Myanmar during the period. Imports of other pulses included 300 tonnes of rajma from Myanmar and Canada, 350 tonnes of cow peas from Brazil and Madagascar, 75 tonnes of yellow peas from Canada, and 100 tonnes of lima beans from Madagascar, the data showed.
During the period, 1,089 containers landed at the Chennai port, of which 550 were from Myanmar, the data showed. End
