NEW DELHI – India's tea production in November rose 9.6% on year to 143.28 million kilograms, according to provisional data released by the Tea Board India. The country had produced 130.77 million kilograms of tea in November last year.

 

Of the total tea produced in November, north Indian states produced 86% or 123.45 million kilograms of tea, the data showed. Assam accounted for 46% of the total tea produced in the country at 66.4 million kilograms, while West Bengal contributed 37% of the total output at 53.06 million kilograms in November, the data showed.

 

Tea production in north India increased by nearly 13% on year in November, with West Bengal witnessing a 30.4% on year rise in output. However, tea production in south India declined 7.3% on year as all major growers registered an on-year fall. Tea production in Tamil Nadu and Kerala fell by 6.0% and 9.4% on year, respectively. 

 

Southern states' share was nearly 14% at 19.83 million kilograms of tea in November. Tamil Nadu topped it at 13.5 million kilograms of tea, accounting for 9.4% of the country's total production, and Kerala produced 4% at 5.8 million kilograms of tea in November, Tea Board data showed.

 

India's tea production in Jan-Nov was at 1.25 billion kilograms.  End
