Pulses body says imports via Chennai port from Nov 23-Dec 4 at 42,075 tn

MUMBAI – India imported 42,075 tonnes of pulses through the Chennai port between Nov. 23 and Dec. 4, according to data released by the India Grains and Pulses Association on Tuesday. At 31,075 tonnes, imports from Myanmar accounted for nearly 74% of the total pulses imports during the period, the data showed.

 

The country imported 18,000 tonnes of urad in the said period, accounting for nearly 42.7% of the total imports. Imports from Myanmar were at 17,650 tonnes, while imports from Brazil were 350 tonnes.

 

Tur imports for the period were 17,900 tonnes, or 42.5% of the total imports, according to the data. India imported 12,675 tonnes of tur from Myanmar, 3,000 tonnes from Tanzania, 1,750 tonnes from Mozambique, 250 tonnes from Malawi, and 225 tonnes from Kenya.

 

In the given period, India imported 3,825 tonnes of masur, with 2,275 tonnes coming from Canada and 1,550 tonnes from the US, the data showed. The country also imported 375 tonnes of yellow peas from Canada.

 

The country imported 125 tonnes of chickpeas from Myanmar. Imports of other pulses included 650 tonnes of brown eye beans from Brazil, and 100 tonnes of lima beans from Madagascar. Cow pea imports from Brazil stood at 425 tonnes, while imports from Madagascar were 25 tonnes.

 

Imports of rajma from Myanmar were 500 tonnes, while those from China were 25 tonnes. India also imported 125 tonnes of red rajma from Myanmar, according to the data.

 

During the period, 1,683 containers landed at the Chennai port, of which 1,243 were from Myanmar, the data showed.  End
