Tea Board says India's tea output in Oct up 5.5% on year at 198.6 mln kg

MUMBAI – India's tea production in October rose 5.5% on year to 198.60 million kilograms, according to provisional data released by the Tea Board India. The country had produced 188.26 million kilograms of tea in October last year.
North Indian states produced 174.38 million kilograms of tea in October, contributing almost 88% to the country's total production for the month, the data showed. Assam accounted for 56% of the total tea produced in the country at 111.52 million kilograms, while West Bengal contributed nearly 29% of the total output at 57.37 million kilograms in October, the data showed.
Southern states produced 24.22 million kilograms of tea in October, accounting for 12% of the country's total production. Tamil Nadu produced 18.21 million kilograms of tea, accounting for 9% of the country's total production, and Kerala produced 5.67 million kilograms of tea in October, Tea Board data showed.
India's tea production during Jan-Oct was 1.11 billion kilograms. End
