India's tea exports rise around 21% on year to INR 44 bln in Jan-Aug

MUMBAI – India exported tea worth INR 44 billion in Jan-Aug, up around 21% from the corresponding period last year, according to provisional data released by the Tea Board India. The export volume for the period rose 23% on year to 167.82 million kg.
The average unit price of tea exported from the country fell to INR 262.77 per kg from INR 267.35 per kg a year ago, the data showed. North India's share of exports was higher at 96.19 million kg, up 16% from last year, region-wise data showed. Exports from south India rose 33% on year to 71.63 million kg.
The average price of tea exported from North India rose to INR 293.11 per kg in Jan-Aug from INR 290.82 per kg in the same period last year. The average price of tea exported from south India fell to INR 222.03 per kg from INR 231.17 per kg a year ago, the data showed.
Tea exports from north India fetched INR 28.2 billion in Jan-Aug, up from INR 24.1 billion a year ago. Tea exports from south India earned INR 15.9 billion for the said period, up from INR 12.4 billion last year. End
