MUMBAI - Notwithstanding delay in the flowering stage, the kharif tur crop in Karnataka is healthy thanks to the favourable weather, the India Pulses and Grains Association said in a report. If the good weather conditions persist, a good yield is anticipated, with harvest expected to commence Nov. 20-25, the report said Friday.
The crop's progress will depend on the weather conditions. Currently, fog levels have increased, which may lead to insect issues, the report said. Small arrivals of the new kharif tur are expected to begin from mid-December, it said. Arrivals will start in full swing in January, and increase after Sankranti, which is on Jan. 14.
The major tur-producing districts in Karnataka are Kalaburagi, Bidar, Raichur, Yadgiri, Vijaypura, Bagalkot, and Bijapur, the report said. In Kalaburagi, harvest is projected to begin in the first week of December due to a delay in the flowering stage. In Bidar, while excessive rains in October caused 10-15% damage to the standing crops, the acreage is still higher this year as compared to last year, the association said. Sowing has increased in Bijapur, Bidar-Bhalki, and Basavkalyan districts of the state, the report said.
The minimum support price for tur has been set at INR 7,550 per 100 kg for the kharif marketing year 2024-25 (Oct-Sep), while current mandi prices in Kalaburagi are INR 11,000-11,500 per 100 kg, the report said. End
