MUMBAI – Prices of maize, wheat, and rice were steady Tuesday in key markets across the country, traders said. Maize arrivals in Karnataka's Davanagere market surged, while prices remain unchanged due to higher moisture content in the grain, they said.
MAIZE prices in Karnataka's Davanagere were unchanged on Tuesday despite a massive increase in arrivals from the previous day. Prices were steady at INR 1,600-2,200 per 100 kilograms with arrivals at 20,000 bags (1 bag = 60 kg), up from 3,000 bags on Monday, Shiva Kumar, a local trader said.
Arrivals rose as it stopped raining in Davanagere, Kumar said, adding that prices were steady as the moisture content in the grain was still high at 24-30%. Prices are likely to fall after Diwali as arrivals will increase further, he said.
WHEAT prices were steady in Mumbai's Vashi market at INR 3,150 per 100 kg, local trader Devendra Vora said. Prices will be steady till Saturday as there is no trade happening in the market due to the unavailability of labourers and workers with Diwali round the corner.
Wheat prices from the benchmark market Kota in Rajasthan were unavailable as the market was shut on account of Dhanteras. Kota market will remain shut till Sunday on account of Diwali.
Price of Kolam RICE was steady in Mumbai's Vashi market at INR 6,000-INR 6,200 per 100 kg, Vora said. Price of 1509 basmati rice variety was also steady at INR 7,300-INR 7,800 per 100 kg, he said. End
