MUMBAI – Tur prices are likely to rise in the coming week due to shortage in the Myanmar-origin lemon variety of tur, domestic tur, and processed tur in the local market, the India Pulses and Grains Association said in its weekly report on Monday.
Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu have issued purchase tenders for tur, which may support prices. Demand for tur is expected to continue after Diwali due to the upcoming wedding season, the association said.
Prices are likely to stay firm until the arrival of the new kharif tur in markets in the first week of December, the report said. However, with expectations of large arrivals of the new tur crop and cheaper imports from Africa, the upside in prices could be limited, the report said.
Prices of both imported and domestic tur rose in the week ended Saturday, the report said. Prices of tur from Mynamar were up due to higher cost and freight charges, and short covering by traders as stocks dwindled after overselling, according to the report. On other hand, an increase in purchases by millers to meet immediate needs amid low stocks supported domestic tur prices.
In the week ended Saturday, prices of tur in Akola in Maharashtra were up by INR 800 from the previous week to INR 10,650-10,700 per 100 kg, according to the association. Similarly, prices of tur in Kalaburagi, Karnataka, were up INR 465 from the previous week to INR 10,100-11,365 per 100 kg. End
