MUMBAI – Mustard seed and soybean prices fell Tuesday in wholesale markets of Jaipur, Rajasthan, and Indore, Madhya Pradesh, respectively, traders said. Groundnut prices rose at the market in Gondal, Gujarat, they added.

MUSTARD prices in Jaipur were down INR 125 to INR 6,725-6,750 per 100 kilograms from Monday. Arrivals in Rajasthan were unchanged at 175,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg). Similarly, arrivals all over the country were unchanged at 350,000 bags, according to Marudhar Trading Agency.

"With Diwali approaching, mustard seed prices are expected to increase in the coming week," Mahesh Sameriya, a Rajasthan-based trader said. However, in Kota, Rajasthan, mustard prices were down INR 100 at INR 6,500 per 100 kg with arrivals increasing by 500 bags to 6,500 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), Sameriya added.

SOYBEAN prices in Indore fell INR 100 to INR 4,150-4,550 per 100 kg, Mukesh Mangal, a local trader, said. "It is raining heavily today (Tuesday) and arrivals are full of moisture," Mangal said. Some arrivals of low crop quality were priced at INR 4,400 per 100 kg, he added.

"Soybean production is expected to surpass last year’s levels, due to which prices are not anticipated to see a significant increase," Shailendra Soni, another trader from Indore, said. Government purchases at minimum support prices may play a key role in supporting the prices, Soni said.

Similarly, soybean prices in Kota, Rajasthan were down INR 25 at INR 4,500 per 100 kg with arrivals increasing by 5,000 bags to 55,000 bags (1 bag = 90 kg), Sameriya said.

GROUNDNUT prices rose INR 200 in Gondal and were in the range of INR 5,700-8,000 per 100 kg, Ashok Virvani, a Gujarat-based trader said.

"Prices were different for various varieties today (Tuesday) with bold kernel and G20 being priced the highest and the ones with high moisture content were priced less," Virvani said.
