MUMBAI – Prices of maize, wheat, and rice were steady Tuesday across key markets in the country, traders said. Arrivals of maize in Karnataka's Davanagere were down owing to continuous rain in the region.
Prices of MAIZE in Davanagere were steady from the previous day as lower arrivals offset the prospects of higher production. Prices were at INR 1,600-INR 2,200 per 100 kg, Shiva Kumar, a local trader, said. Maize with 18-30% of moisture content is being sold at INR 1,800-INR 2,200 per 100 kg, while grain with moisture content above 30% is being sold at INR 1,600 per 100 kg, he said.
Arrivals were down by 1,000 bags from Thursday to 4,000 bags (1 bag = 60 kg), Kumar said. Arrivals fell owing to continuous rainfall in the state, he said. "An orange alert has been issued for three days in Karnataka," Kumar said. Prices are likely to stay steady till the rains stop, Kumar said. So far, there has been no damage to the crop or harvested produce, he added. But if rainfall continues for a week, then there would be a risk of crop damage.
Prices of WHEAT in Mumbai's Vashi market were unchanged at INR 3,100 per 100 kg, said Devendra Vora, a wholesale trader. Prices of wheat in Rajasthan's Kota were also steady from the previous day at INR 2,700-INR 2,715 per 100 kg, Aniket Mehta, a local trader, said. Arrivals were steady, however, from the previous day at 8,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), Mehta said.
Prices of RICE were steady at the Vashi market at INR 6,000-INR 6,200 per kg, Vora said. Basmati rice prices were also steady at INR 7,300-INR 7,800 per 100 kg, Vora said. Similarly, prices of Sona Masoori rice, a non-basmati premium variety, were steady at INR 6,400 per 100 kg in Vijayawada's Bhavanipuram in Andhra Pradesh, Ravi Shankar, a local trader, said. End
