Mixed; mustard down on high arrivals, groundnut up

MUMBAI – Mustard seed prices on Monday fell slightly in Jaipur, Rajasthan, while soybean prices were stable in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, traders said. Groundnut prices rose in Gondal, Gujarat, they added.
MUSTARD prices in Jaipur were down INR 50 to INR 6,850-6,875 per 100 kilograms from Saturday. All over the country, arrivals were up 225,000 bags at 350,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), according to Marudhar Trading Agency.
"Mustard prices may rise in near term by 50-100 rupees per 100 kgs as Diwali is nearby and also the wedding season," Mahesh Sameriya, a Rajasthan-based trader said. The overall trend for mustard seed prices appears to be bullish in the long run, he added. However, in Kota, Rajasthan, mustard prices were up by INR 100 at INR 6,600 per 100 kgs with arrivals remaining unchanged at 6,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), Sameriya added.
SOYBEAN prices in Indore were unchanged at INR 4,250-4,650 per 100 kgs, Mukesh Mangal, a local trader, said.
"Due to bumper arrivals of the crops in various mandis, soybean prices are expected to fall or remain steady in the medium term, but due to festivals nearby, a temporary rise is expected for short-duration," Mangal said. Mandi opened after three days, he added.
Similarly, soybean prices in Kota, Rajasthan were down by INR 25 to INR 4,525 per 100 kgs with arrivals remaining unchanged at 50,000 bags (1 bag = 90 kgs), Sameriya said.
However, soybean prices in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, were at INR 4,700 per 100 kgs, Narendra Porwal, another trader from the state said. Arrivals all over the country were seen at 725,000 bags (1 bag = 90 kg), he said.
GROUNDNUT prices rose by INR 200 in Gondal, Gujarat and were in the range of INR 5,500-8,000 per 100 kgs, Ashok Virvani, a Gujarat-based trader said.
"Prices were different for various varieties today (Monday) with bold kernel and G20 being priced the highest and the ones with high moisture content were priced less," Virvani said. He added that currently, it is the peak arrival season of groundnut in Gujarat mandis.
