MUMBAI – Mustard seed prices rose slightly in Jaipur in Rajasthan due to festival demand, traders said. Prices of soybean and groundnut were unavailable as most markets were shut on Friday on account of the last day of Navratri, they said.

MUSTARD prices in Jaipur were up INR 25 to INR 6,925-6,975 per 100 kilograms from Thursday. All-India arrivals of mustard were down by 115,000 bags to 150,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), according to Marudhar Trading Agency. "The overall trend for mustard seed prices appears to be bullish due to festivals nearby and the start of the wedding season," Mahesh Sameriya, a Rajasthan-based trader said.

SOYBEAN prices in Indore in Madhya Pradesh were unavailable as the market was closed, Mukesh Mangal, a local trader said. Most other markets in Madhya Pradesh, including Ujjain and Ratlam, were also closed on Friday, Narendra Porwal, another trader from the state said. Porwal believes that the procurement of soybeans, which will start in mid-October, may support prices in the long run.

GROUNDNUT prices were also not available as markets in Gondal and Saurashtra in Gujarat were closed on Friday, Ashok Virvani, a Rajasthan-based trader, said.

At 1626 IST, the most active October crude SUNFLOWER OIL on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange was up 1.4% at 1,208 rupees per 10 kg.

Meanwhile, India's vegetable oil imports declined 30% on year to 1.09 million tonnes in September, the Solvent Extractors' Association of India said Friday. The cumulative import of vegetable oils during Nov-Sept, the first eleven months of the current oil year ending October, declined 6% to 14.78 million tonnes from 15.70 million tonnes during the same period of last year, the association said.

The import of crude palm oil in September fell 39% on year to 432,510 tonnes, while refined, bleached and deodorised palmolein declined 35% to 84,279 tonnes. Crude sunflower oil imports in September declined 49% to 152,803 tonnes from 300,732 tonnes a year ago, the association said. However, imports of crude soyoil in September were up 7% on year at 384,382 tonnes.  End
