India's tea exports rise around 20% on year to INR 37 bln in Jan-Jul

MUMBAI – India exported tea worth INR 37 billion in Jan-Jul, up around 20% from the corresponding period last year, according to provisional data released by the Tea Board India. The export volume for the period rose 24% on year to 144.5 million kg.
The average unit price of tea exported from the country fell to INR 256.37 per kg from INR 264.96 per kg a year ago, the data showed. North India's share of exports was higher at 81.9 million kg, up 15.6% from last year, region-wise data showed. Exports from south India rose 36.5% on year to 62.6 million kg.
The average unit price on the exports declined for the both regions. The average price of tea exported from north India fell to INR 283.78 per kg in Jan-Jul from INR 286.54 per kg in the same period last year. The average price of exported from south India fell to INR 220.50 per kg from INR 231.61 per kg a year ago, the data showed.
Tea exports from north India fetched INR 23.2 billion in Jan-Jul, up from INR 20.3 billion a year ago. Tea exports from south India earned INR 13.8 billion during the period, up from INR 10.6 billion last year. End
