MUMBAI – Price of WHEAT in Mumbai's Vashi market rose by INR 50 to INR 3,100 per 100 kg as demand for the commodity rose ahead of the festival season, said a wholesale trader, Devendra Vora. It also took cues from a rise in wheat prices in North India, where rates increased by around INR 150 last week, he added.

Meanwhile, wheat prices were steady in Rajasthan's Kota market since Saturday at INR 2,675-2,700 per 100 kg, said a local trader, Aniket Mehta. Arrivals were also steady at 10,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), he added.

Prices of MAIZE in Karnataka's Davanagere were steady at INR 1,800-2,400 per 100 kg, local trader Shiva Kumar said.

Maize prices in Telangana's Nizamabad were steady at INR 1,850-2,451 from Friday, Amrutlal Kataria, a local trader said. Moisture content in the grain was 15-25%, he said. Arrivals rose to 5,500 bags (1 bag = 60 kg) from 2,800 bags on Friday.

Prices of Sona masoori, a premium non-basmati RICE variety, were steady at INR 6,400-6,450 per 100 kg from last week, Ravi Shankar, a trader from Bhavanipuram in Andhra Pradesh, said. Prices of other premium non-basmati rice varieties were also steady at INR 5,600–5,800 per 100 kg, he added.

Prices of rice in Vashi market were steady at INR 6,000-6,200 per kg. Gains in rice prices can be seen after December as currently there are no orders from West Asian countries, Vora said. There are no containers available because of geopolitical tensions in West Asia, he added. Prices of basmati rice were also steady at INR 7,300-7,800 per 100 kg, he said. The ongoing tensions between Israel and Hezbollah led to restrictions on shipments and exports to West Asia, denting demand. End
