MUMBAI – Prices of rice, wheat, and maize were steady today in key markets across the country, traders said. Wheat traders expect prices to remain firm till the end of the month due to lower arrivals, they said.

WHEAT prices were steady in Mumbai's Vashi market at INR 3,050 per 100 kilograms, Devendra Vora, a wholesale trader said. Wheat prices are likely to remain firm till the end of the month due to declining arrivals, lower government stocks and lack of weekly open market sales by the government, Vora said.

The wheat market in Kota in Rajasthan was shut on Thursday on account of the first day of Navratri, Aniket Mehta, a local trader said.

Prices of RICE in Vashi were unchanged on Thursday at INR 5,800-6,200 per 100 kg, Vora said. Prices of Basmati rice were also steady at INR 7,300-7,800 per 100 kg, he added.

Prices of MAIZE in Karnataka's Davanagere were steady at INR 1,600-2,500 per 100 kg, Shiva Kumar, a local trader said. Arrivals were also steady at 4,000 bags (1 bag = 60 kg). Kumar expects maize prices to fall after Dussehra as arrivals increase. The prices for higher quality are likely to fall to INR 2,000-2,200 per 100 kg, he said. The grain with higher moisture content is being sold at INR 1,600 per 100 kg, he said.

In Telangana's Nizamabad, maize prices fell to INR 1,819–2,484 per 100 kg Thursday from INR 2,000-2,511 per 100 kg on the previous day, Amrutlal Kataria, a local trader said. Moisture content in the grain was 16%-27%, he said. Prices fell on Thursday as arrivals rose from 1,500 bags to 3,200 bags, he said.   End
