India tea output in Aug down 1.2% on year to 181.71 mln kg, says Tea Board

MUMBAI – India's tea production in August fell 1.2% on year to 181.71 million kg, according to provisional data released by the Tea Board of India. The country produced 183.83 million kg of tea in the corresponding period last year.
North India contributed almost 90% to the total production at 162.99 million kg, the data showed. Within this, Assam accounted for 56.8% of the total tea produced in the country at 103.16 million kg. Similarly, production in West Bengal accounted for 30% of the total output at 54.43 million kg in August, the data showed.
Southern states produced 18.72 million kg of tea in August, accounting for 10% of the country's total production. In south India, Tamil Nadu produced 14.08 million kg of tea, accounting for 8% of the total production in the country and Kerala produced 4.37 million kg of tea in August, the tea board data showed.
India's tea production in the first eight months of the year, Jan-Aug, was at 734.54 million kg. End
