MUMBAI – Prices of wheat were marginally higher in the benchmark market of Kota in Rajasthan due to festival demand, traders said. Prices of rice and maize were steady in the key markets across the country, traders said.
Prices of mill-quality WHEAT were up by 5–10 rupees in Kota at 2,680-2,710 rupees per 100 kg due to firm demand ahead of Dussehra and Diwali festivals in October, Aniket Mehta, a local trader, said. Arrivals were almost unchanged from the previous day at 15,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), Mehta said. However, prices of the mill-quality wheat in Mumbai's Vashi market were unchanged at 2,975-3,000 rupees per 100 kg, Devendra Vora, a wholesale broker said.
MAIZE prices were steady in Karnataka's Davanagere market at 1,600-2,500 rupees per 100 kg, Shiva Kumar, a local trader said. Arrivals were also steady at 2,200 bags (1 bag = 60 kg), he said. Kumar expects prices at the upper end to fall to 2,000-2,200 rupees per 100 kg next week on higher arrivals. Arrivals will increase, provided the ongoing rains in the region stop, he said. Currently, there is no damage caused to the harvested crop due to heavy rains, though the moisture content in the new crop is around 30% compared with the accepted level of 14%, he said.
In Telangana's Nizamabad, maize prices were largely steady at 1,788-2,408 rupees per 100 kg today, from the previous day, Amrutlal Kataria, a local trader said. Moisture content in the grain was 16%-27%, he said.
Prices of basmati RICE were also steady today in Vashi mandi at 7,300-7,400 rupees per 100 kg, Vora said. End
