US natural gas stocks rise by 47 bcf in week ended Sep 20

MUMBAI – Natural gas inventory in the US rose by 47 bcf in the week ended Sep 20, according to data from the US Energy Information Administration. The gas inventory was 7.1% higher than the five-year average for this time of the year, the agency said in its weekly report.

 

The department pegged total gas in underground storage at 3.49 trln cu ft as of Sep 20, 4.8% higher than 3.45 trln cu ft a year ago. The stocks were 159 bcf higher than this time last year and 233 bcf above the five-year average of 3.26 trln cu ft, according to the report. 

 

The east, midwest, mountain, Pacific, and nonsalt south-central regions of the US saw a rise in stocks, while salt south-central region witnessed a fall in inventory, according to the release. At 1302 IST, the most-active November contract of natural gas on the New York Mercantile Exchange was at $2.74 per mBtu, unchanged from the previous close. End
