MUMBAI – Prices of pulses were mixed in key spot markets of the country today, traders said. Prices of chana and tur were down while those of urad and masur were steady, they said.

CHANA prices in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, were down 150 rupees to 7,600-7,650 rupees per 100 kg, local trader Kailash Kakani said. "Chana prices are expected to rise in the medium term due to firm seasonal demand," he said. However, prices of chana in Akola, Maharashtra, were steady at 7,750-7,800 rupees per 100 kg, according to the India Pulses and Grains Association.

TUR prices in Akola were down by 50 rupees to 10,950-11,000 rupees per 100 kg, the association said. Tur prices are likely to increase in the near term owing to firm demand from millers, according to the association's weekly report.

According to media reports, there has been a downtrend in prices of pulses due to an increase in imports and also due to the expected arrivals of kharif crops to markets by November.

URAD prices in Indore were steady with prices in the range of 7,500-8,500 rupees per 100 kg, according to the association. Heavy rainfall, lower stocks, and delays in sowing in Myanmar could support prices of urad in coming days, it said.

MASUR prices in the key wholesale market of Lalitpur, Uttar Pradesh, were steady at 5,600-5,800 rupees for the "moti" type. Prices of the "choti" type rose by 100 rupees to 6,100-6,450 rupees per 100 kg, according to the association.  End
