Govt signs MoU with FCI to improve food grain procurement efficiency

MUMBAI – The Department of Food and Public Distribution and the Food Corporation of India today signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at improving efficiency and accountability in food grain procurement and distribution, an official release said.
The MoU outlines specific performance benchmarks, including for FCI depots, and accountability measures aimed at optimising the use of public funds in managing food security operations, the release said. The performance benchmarking of FCI depots includes parameters like capacity utilisation, operational losses, security measures, modernisation and automation of processes, the release said.
The MoU reflects the government's commitment to refine the public distribution system and ensure that food subsidy funds are managed with the highest level of efficiency, it said.
The FCI conducts procurement, storage, transport, distribution and sale of food grain on behalf of the government. End
