MUMBAI – The Union Cabinet today approved the expansion of road connectivity to 25,000 unconnected habitations in the next four years. The Cabinet approved an outlay of 701.25 bln rupees for 2024-25 (Apr-Mar) to 2028-29 to be carried out by the Department of Rural Development under the new Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana - IV.

Of the outlay amount, the states' share will be 210.38 bln rupees and the remaining 490.87 bln rupees would remain with the Centre. The scheme aims to connect 25,000 habitations of a population size of over 500 in the plains regions, and over 250 in northeastern and hill states and union territories tribal and desert areas.

The plan is to build 62,500 km of all-weather roads to these areas, along with bridges. The government believes that the new roads will enable socio-economic development of the targeted habitations.  End
