MUMBAI – Prices of chana fell while those of tur rose in major markets across the country, traders said. Prices of moong were steady in key markets, they said.

CHANA prices in Akola, Maharashtra, were down by 50–75 rupees from Tuesday at 7,800-7,850 rupees per 100 kg, local trader Ankit Kedia said. Arrivals were steady at 300 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), Kedia said. "Demand for chana is slowing down as buyers have already done bulk buying for Ganesh Chaturthi," he said. Similarly, chana prices in Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh, were down by 50 rupees from Tuesday at 7,100-7,400 rupees per 100 kg, said Vinod Jain, a local trader. Arrivals at the market were steady at 600 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), Jain said.

TUR prices in Solapur, Maharashtra, were up by 100 rupees from Tuesday at 11,500-11,600 rupees per 100 kg, said Shrikant Somani, a local trader. Supply of tur has been hit by heavy rainfall in the state, he said. "Stocks of tur in warehouses are decreasing, hence tur prices could rise further in the long run," he said. Similarly, tur prices in Akola were up by 50 rupees at 11,300-11,350 rupees per 100 kg from Tuesday, Kedia said. "Currently, there is a shortage of tur stocks in mandis, but imports from Mozambique will start arriving in the markets soon," he said.

MOONG prices in Akola were steady at 7,700-8,500 rupees per 100 kg, said local trader Kirit Mantri. Arrivals at the market were steady at 3,000-4,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), Mantri said. "Prices may remain stable for next two or three days," he said. Arrivals from Karnataka may decline in the near term due to heavy rainfall in the state, he said, adding that the heavy rain would significantly affect both the supply and quality of moong in the long run. Currently, high moisture levels in moong have hit its quality. Moong prices in Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh, were steady at 6,835-7,850 rupees per 100 kg, Jain said. Arrivals at the market were steady at 600 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), he said.  End
