MUMBAI – Prices of chana and masur fell while those of tur and urad were stable in key markets across the country, traders said. Huge quantity of imports of pulses from various countries are affecting domestic prices negatively, they added.

CHANA prices at Vidisha in Madhya Pradesh fell 200 rupees from Wednesday to 7,400-7,600 rupees per 100 kg, said Dinesh Mangal, a local trader. Arrivals were steady at 600 bags (1 bag = 100 kg). "Buyers were fewer today as compared to Wednesday, hence, prices fell. However, in the long run, chana prices are not expected to fall," said Pradeep Sahu, another local trader.

TUR prices in Akola, Maharashtra, were steady at 11,200 rupees per 100 kg, said Ashok Gupta, a local trader. Arrivals declined to 400 bags from 500 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), Gupta said. "Tur prices are seen stable for the short-term but with reduced stocks in the markets, prices could rise in the long run," he said. The supply of tur could fall in the upcoming months as new crops will arrive in markets during November and January, traders said. Hence, tur prices are likely to stabilise or rise further in the coming weeks, the India Pulses and Grains Association said.

URAD prices in Jalgaon, Maharashtra, were steady at 8,300-8,800 rupees per 100 kg, said Prem Kagta, a local mill owner. "Due to sluggish demand of the pulse, arrivals are also falling gradually in the market as there are very few buyers every day, Kagta said. Moreover, the demand for imported urad has increased as it is cheaper, with prices at 8,200 rupees per 100 kg, he said. "Imported urad coming from Burma via Chennai stood at 9,000 rupees per 100 kg two weeks ago, but since the prices have reduced now, more buyers are purchasing imported urad currently," he said.

MASUR prices in Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh, were down by 50 rupees from Wednesday to 5,700-5,900 rupees per 100 kg, said Dinesh Mangal, a local trader said. "Huge quantities of pulses imports are affecting the domestic prices of most of the pulses," he said. A vessel named 'M.V. LIVITA' carrying 41,450 tn of masur from Canada arrived at Mundra port today, the association said. End
