Mixed; chana prices down, tur, moong up

MUMBAI – Prices of chana fell while those of tur and moong rose in key markets across the country, traders said. Prices of urad and masoor were steady across major markets, they said.
CHANA prices in Indore in Madhya Pradesh fell 50 rupees from Tuesday to 7,900 rupees per 100 kg, Raja Jain, a local trader said. Arrivals were steady at 1,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), Jain said. "As the Janmashtami celebrations ended, buying was less in the market today," Jain said. Prices could improve in the coming weeks with Ganesh Chaturthi approaching, he added. Chana prices in Solapur in Maharashtra fell 100 rupees from Tuesday to 7,700 rupees per 100 kg, Raju Srinivas, a local trader said.
TUR prices in Solapur rose by 100 rupees from Tuesday to 11,450 rupees per 100 kg, Srinivas said. Arrivals at the market were stable at 50 tn, Srinivas said. "Currently, tur prices are increasing in most parts of the state with Ganesh Chaturthi nearby," he said. However, tur prices in Kalaburagi in Karnataka fell 200 rupees from Friday to 10,000-11,000 rupees per 100 kg, Kadkal Patel, a local trader said. Arrivals were at 985 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), Patel said. Kalaburagi market was closed on Monday and Tuesday for Janmashtami.
MOONG prices in Akola in Maharashtra rose 100 rupees from Tuesday to 7,500 rupees per 100 kg, Kirit Mantri, a local trader said. Arrivals at the mandi were nearly 500-1,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), Mantri said. Prices of good quality moong were in the range of 8,100-8,200 rupees per 100 kg, he said. Moong prices in Solapur also rose by 100 rupees to 7,500 rupees per 100 kg, Srinivas said. "Heavy rainfall has slowed down the supply of moong from Karnataka," Mukund Khatod, another Maharashtra-based trader, said. Continuous rainfall is also affecting the quality of the new crop, he said.
URAD prices in Solapur were steady at 8,600-8,700 rupees, Srinivas said. They were steady in Ashok Nagar in Madhya Pradesh also at 7,600-8,500 rupees, Gaurav Kochar, a local trader said.
MASUR prices in Indore were steady at 6,000 rupees per 100 kg, Jain said. However, the sluggish demand for the pulse could affect prices in the long run, Jain said. Masur prices in Solapur were steady at 7,300 rupees per 100 kg, Srinivas said.
