Jaipur mustard up; most mkts shut for Janmashtami

MUMBAI – Prices of mustard rose slightly today in Jaipur, while those of soybean and groundnut were unavailable in Indore and Gondal respectively, traders said.

 

MUSTARD seed prices in the benchmark market of Jaipur in Rajasthan rose 25 rupees from Friday to 6,200-6,225 rupees per 100 kg. Arrivals across the country were down by 175,000 to 125,000 bags, according to Marudhar Trading Agency.

 

"Most of the markets were closed in Rajasthan today on the occasion of Janmashtami," Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader, said. However, mustard seed prices in Kota were steady at 5,500 rupees per 100 kg though arrivals declined by 5,000 bags to 1,000 bags. Some of the mandis will remain closed on Tuesday too, he said. Wholesale prices of refined mustard oil were steady at 1,140 rupees per 10 ltr in Mumbai, according to data from The Solvent Extractors Association of India.

 

SOYBEAN prices in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, were unavailable as the market was closed for Janmashtami, according to Mukesh Mangal, a local trader. Soybean prices in Kota were up by 149 rupees from Friday to 4,400 rupees per 100 kg. "This was due to fewer arrivals in the mandi today," Sameriya said. Arrivals in the Kota market were down by 7,000 bags to 1,000 bags (1 bag = 90 kg). Wholesale prices of refined soyoil were up 1% at 970 rupees per 10 ltr in Mumbai from Friday, according to the SEA.

 

GROUNDNUT prices from Gondal in Gujarat were unavailable as markets were shut for Janmashtami, local trader Ashok Virvani said. "It is a very special festival for us, so usually the celebration goes on for a few days," he said. Most of the mandis in the state will reopen around Sep 3, Dilipbhai Ramani, another local trader, said. Wholesale prices of refined groundnut oil were down 0.7% at 1,410 rupees per 10 ltr in Mumbai, data from the SEA showed.

 

On the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange:

--The August contract of crude SUNFLOWER oil ended at 917.1 rupees per 10 kg, up 0.7% from the previous close.

--The September contract of crude SUNFLOWER oil ended at 930 rupees per 10 kg, up 2.1% from the previous close.
