MUMBAI – Prices of chana and moong were steady today across major markets in India, while prices of tur and urad fell, traders said. Prices of most pulses fell due to lack of buyers, they added.

Chana prices in Bikaner, Rajasthan, were steady at 7,500 rupees per 100 kg, said Suresh Khandelwal, a local trader. Arrivals in the local mandi are very low, Khandelwal said. Similarly, chana prices in Akola, Maharashtra, were steady in the range of 7,300-7,400 rupees per 100 kg for kabuli chana, said local trader Pawan Jain. Demand for chana is gradually declining because most of the buyers have already carried out bulk purchases for festivals, Jain said.

Prices of tur in Solapur, Maharashtra fell by 100–200 rupees to 11,000–11,100 rupees per 100 kg, according to the India Pulses and Grains Association. Supply of tur has been steady, and a good harvest is expected because of good rainfall, said Mukesh Sanklecha, a local trader. Tur prices have fallen because of sluggish demand, along with a drop in the number of buyers in the past week, he said. Buyers usually prefer imported tur, and this is further affecting prices of the commodity, he said.

Moong prices in Lalitpur, Uttar Pradesh, were steady at 7,200-7,700 rupees per 100 kg, with arrivals at 200 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), the association said. Similarly, moong prices in Pipariya, Madhya Pradesh, were steady at 7,000-8,170 rupees per 100 kg, with arrivals at 1,500 bags (1 bag = 100 kg). Due to high moisture content in the new arrivals of moong, prices are likely to fall soon, said Pradeep Sahu, a Madhya Pradesh-based trader.

Urad prices in Solapur fell by 100 rupees to 8,800-9,000 rupees per 100 kg, according to the data by the association. Urad prices fell by 400–500 rupees last week but are expected to remain stable in the long run, Sanklecha said.  End
