US natural gas stocks fall by 6 bcf in week ended August 9

MUMBAI – Natural gas inventory in the US fell by 6 bcf in the week ended Aug 9, according to data from the US Energy Information Administration. The gas inventory was 13% higher than the five-year average for this time of the year, the agency said in its weekly report.
The department pegged total gas in underground storage at 3.26 trln cu ft as of Aug 9, 6.8% higher than 3.06 trln cu ft a year ago. The stocks were 209 bcf higher than this time last year and 375 bcf above the five-year average of 2.89 trln cu ft, according to the report.
The east, midwest, and mountain regions in the US saw a rise in stocks, while the Pacific and south-central region, which includes salt and non-salt regions, witnessed a fall in inventory, according to the report. At 1207 IST, the most-active September contract of natural gas on the New York Mercantile Exchange was at $2.20 per mBtu, down 0.4% from the previous close. End
