Mixed; chana prices up ahead of festivals, tur down

MUMBAI – Prices of chana rose in major markets across India due to strong demand for the commodity ahead of festivals, while those of tur fell, traders said. Moong remained stable in the Indore market of Madhya Pradesh, traders said.
CHANA prices rose by 150 rupees in Indore to 7,450-7,575 rupees per 100 kg, according to local trader Kailash Kakani. "Prices of chana are expected to rise this month due to strong demand ahead of festivals, and fall in supply," Kailash Kakani, an Indore-based trader said. Chana prices in Amravati, Maharashtra, were up 300 at 6,800-7,200 rupees per 100 kg. Arrivals of the pulse in the market were up 50 bags to 400 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), the association said. Similarly, chana prices in Akola, Maharashtra, were up 450 rupees from Friday to 7,575-7,600 rupees per 100 kg. The arrivals were unchanged at 400 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), the association said. "Anticipating a further increase in prices, stockists are holding back their produce," Pradeep Sahu, another trader from Madhya Pradesh, said.
TUR prices in the key wholesale market of Kalaburagi were down by 81 rupees at 10,219-11,316 rupees per 100 kg. Arrivals were down by 730 bags to 1,771 bags (1 bag = 50 kg). According to the association, tur acreage has increased to 4.18 mln ha this year from 3.32 mln ha in 2023.
Prices of MOONG in key wholesale market of Lalitpur in Uttar Pradesh were steady at 7,200-7,750 rupees per 100 kg. Arrivals were down by 100 bags to 300 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), the association said. Moong prices at Pipariya in Madhya Pradesh were steady at 7,000-7,950 rupees per 100 kg, with arrivals at 7,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), it said. Increased acreage of moong this kharif season could push prices down further, he said. India's kharif moong acreage so far is 3.2 mln ha, up over 14% from a year ago. End
