MUMBAI - Prices of chana rose in major markets across India due to strong demand ahead of the start of the festivals, while those of tur and moong remained stable in the Indore market of Madhya Pradesh, traders said.
CHANA prices rose by 100 rupees in Indore to 7,300-7,350 rupees per 100 kg, according to data shared by local trader Kailash Kakani. Similarly, prices of the pulse at Vidisha in Madhya Pradesh were up by 100 rupees, ruling at 7,100-7,400 rupees per 100 kg, local trader Pradeep Sahu said. The arrivals in Vidisha stood at 1,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), he said. "The demand for chana rose and prices gained pace," Sahu said.
TUR as well as Moong prices in the wholesale market of Indore remained steady today. Tur prices continued to rule at 10,000-11,500 rupees per 100 kg, Kakani said. "We expected prices to slide down a bit, but they have held their ground with stable demand," he said. Tur prices have continued to slide in the past month due to increased imports, the government imposing stock holding limits and rising prospects of a good kharif output. Prices of MOONG in Indore stood at 7,600-8,050 rupees per 100 kg.
Prices of pulses have been falling on the back of rising kharif acreage in the country which was at 11.06 mln ha as of Aug 2, up 11.0% from a year ago.
Wholesale prices of the pulses were not made available by the India Pulses and Grains Association on account of the IPGA Bharat Dalhan Seminar 2024 happening today in Delhi. Prices from Kalaburgi mandi in Karnataka were also unavailable as the market was closed today. End
