Mixed; chana up, tur falls, moong flat in key mkts

MUMBAI – Prices of chana rose today while those of tur fell in key spot markets across the country, according to the India Pulses and Grains Association. Prices of moong were stable in major markets, it said.
CHANA prices in Amravati, Maharashtra, were up 100 rupees at 6,800-6,900 rupees per 100 kg. Arrivals were down by 290 bags at 510 bags(1 bag = 100 kg), the association said. Prices of chana in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, were up 50 rupees at 7,400-7,450 rupees per 100 kg, local trader Kailash Kakani said. Prices at Kalaburagi in Karnataka were up by 100 rupees at 6,600-7,100 per 100 kg, with arrivals at 300 bags, local trader Veerkumar Kadkol said. "Millers are buying chana in large quantities ahead of the start of the festival season," Kadkol said. Chana is also used in making sweets.
TUR prices in the key wholesale market of Kalaburagi were down by 100 rupees at 10,151-11,513 rupees per 100 kg. Arrivals were down by 1,512 bags to 2,629 bags (1 bag = 50 kg). In Indore, too, tur prices were down 100 rupees at 11,200-11,400 rupees per 100 kg, Kakani said. "Millers are buying at a slower pace due to sluggish demand," Kakani said. "Over a month, tur prices have fallen by 1,500 rupees per 100 kg," Pradeep Sahu, another Indore-based trader, said.
Prices of MOONG in the key wholesale market of Lalitpur in Uttar Pradesh were steady at 7,200-7,650 rupees per 100 kg. Arrivals were down by 100 bags at 300 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), the association said. Moong prices at Pipariya in Madhya Pradesh were also steady at 7,000-7,950 rupees per 100 kg, with arrivals down 1,500 bags at 7,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), it said. Prices in Kalaburagi were steady at 7,700-7,750 rupees per 100 kg, Kadkol said. "Demand for chana is more right now than for moong," he said. Increased acreage of moong this kharif season could push prices down, he said. India's kharif moong acreage so far is 3.2 mln ha, up over 14% from a year ago. End
