MUMBAI – Prices of chana and moong were steady in most markets across the country. Tur prices were down in key spot markets, according to the India Pulses and Grains Association.
CHANA prices in Amravati, Maharashtra, were steady at 6,500-6,700 rupees per 100 kg. Arrivals of the pulse in the market were down by 150 bags to 350 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), the association said. Similarly, chana prices at Akola in Maharashtra were steady at 7,125-7,150 rupees per 100 kg. The arrivals were down by 300 bags to 400 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), the association said.
Prices in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, were also steady at 7,250-7,350 rupees per 100 kg, local trader Kailash Kakani said. However, prices at Kalaburagi in Karnataka rose 30 rupees to 7,280 rupees per 100 kg, local trader Veerkumar Kadkol said. "Chana prices could rise ahead of the seasonal rise in demand during the festive season," Pradeep Sahu, another Indore-based trader said. Moreover, lower availability of stocks, expensive imports, and increased buying by millers could further push up the prices in the long run, he said.
TUR prices in the key wholesale market of Kalaburagi were down by 100 rupees at 10,300-11,700 rupees per 100 kg. Arrivals were up by 1,258 bags to 2,501 bags (1 bag = 50 kg). Similarly, in Indore, tur prices were down 100 rupees at 11,400-11,600 rupees per 100 kg, Sahu said. According to the association, tur acreage has increased to 4.18 mln ha this year from 3.32 mln ha in 2023.
Prices of MOONG in the key wholesale market of Lalitpur in Uttar Pradesh were steady at 7,200-7,650 rupees per 100 kg. Arrivals were unchanged at 400 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), the association said. Moong prices at Pipariya in Madhya Pradesh were steady at 7,000-7,950 rupees per 100 kg, with arrivals down by 2,000 bags at 2,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), it said. Prices in Kalaburagi were steady at 7,700-7,750 rupees per 100 kg, Kadkol said. "Due to subdued buying by various mills across the country, moong prices may decline soon," Kadkol said. Moreover, increased acreage of moong this kharif season could push prices down further, he said. India's kharif moong acreage so far is 3.2 mln ha, up over 14% from a year ago. End
